Day 13- Blog Along Challenge- Spirit of Spring Dance

I’m so inspired by Springtime ! The flowers and all the greenery have inspired this painting. There’s 3 simple techniques I show yow to create this abstract artwork.

1. To create a background of layered drips……use ink sprays. Start with lighter colors and increasingly get darker with each layer. Let dry and/ or use your heat dryer between layers. Build up the layers as you desire it.

Step 1 - using thin layers and lighter colors

2. Keep the colors in the analogous range…..blues, greens, yellows…..or the analogous colors if your choice. If they’re not analogous, you will get muddy brown.

Step 2= Use analogous colors to avoid creating mud

3. Use your favorite flower and plant stencils with acrylic paint and a makeup sponge to apply. At this point use complimentary colors to that if your background. By doing this…….the colors POP. Complimentary colors on the color whee are red/green, yellow/purple, blue/orange. These colors side by side will make each other more vibrant.

As an intuitive painting this was not planned. Each color and shape was what I felt was needed ……..as the painting spoke to me. At some point after painting several flowers and greenery……I then began to feel indecisive, as if I no longer knew intuitively what to paint next. I took about a half hour contemplating the painting before deciding it was finished.

How do you work intuitively? What techniques do you use to promote your process?

Artfully Yours,

Diana
